Thunder at Pistons: Pre-gamer

vs.

Oklahoma City Thunder (3-27) vs. Detroit Pistons (15-11)
Friday, December 26
The Palace of Auburn Hills
Detroit, Michigan
7:00 CST

TV: FS Oklahoma (Cox 37)
Radio: WWLS The Sports Animal (98.1 FM, 640 AM)

The one area OKC really has an advantage tonight? The glass. The Pistons are 25th in the league in rebounding averaging just 39.8 a game. The Thunder on the other hand have been rebounding extremely well lately, outrebounding seven of their last eight opponents, averaging 45.3 boards during that stretch. Jeff Green has been rebounding much better (and he should be), snatching 24 boards the past two games. Chris Wilcox had a season-high 12 against Atlanta. Even Kevin Durant has been hitting the glass a little better lately.

But other than that, what hope is there for tonight? Though the Pistons are an average 11-11 since trading for Allen Iverson, they still are one of the top five or six teams in the East. Rodney Stuckey had a career high 40 against Chicago the other night, Tayshaun Prince will give KD major problems tonight and Rasheed Wallace is a matchup nightmare.

Like I mentioned the Hawks preview, somehow I'm kind of getting excited about this team again, though it's still 3-26. It's awesome watching Durant operate at such an efficient level (25.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg and 51.1 percent from three in December), and Russell Westbrook is continuing to mature and improve. I'm still not totally sure if Jeff Green is "getting it" because he's still relatively inconsistent. And even the Nenad Krstic signing has injected a little life because help in on the way and it's pretty good help. The win against Toronto helped get people off OKC's back with the whole "worst team ever" talk and highlighted the improvement under Scott Brooks.

All that aside, we all know how tonight will turn out. The Thunder is likely looking at 3-27 and that's just not good for the first 30 games of a season. But each game I don't have the complete and total "no chance" feeling like I did a month ago. Granted, it's only like a one percent chance feeling, but I'm saying there's a chance.

Serious question:

When Seattle has national telecasts, the networks will station cameras to get footage of the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. In Philly, they do the same thing with Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. In New York, the Statue of Liberty and Times Square. In LA, the Santa Moncia Pier and the Hollywood sign. In, Chicago, the Sears Tower and that fountain I can't remember the name of. You get the idea. Even in places like Green Bay, they show the stadium itself because its such a landmark.

What the HELL do they show in Oklahoma City??? McDonalds? A horse?

Good rittance that the Sucky Sonics are gone. Nobody cares about the NBA anymore. Thats why we quit going to the games and stopped supporting the team. You stupid okies can have our leftovers that we didn't want anymore.

Anonymous said...

What's really sick is that now that the Sonics are gone, all these idiots are becoming Blazer fans. How do you become a fan of your biggest rival? It just proves what lousy fans they were all along...

Anonymous said...

Lucky Duck, that's complete bullshit. I don't know personally or have yet to meet ONE former Sonics fan who is even following the NBA this season, let alone supporting the Blazers. I'm guessing you're counting the opinions of some of our pathetic local sports media here as "fan support." The only reason some of the media are talking about checking Blazer box scores is because they're not talented enough to report on the NFL and MLB alone, and need the NBA to fill up time.

I'll give you that some bandwagoners have jumped aboard the Blazers, but thats the tiny minority.

Fuck OKC, btw.

3-28 here we come! Winning doesn't matter because I'm an Okie and I'm used to being a loser.

hagen, you stupid moron....sorry if the truth hurts but Blazers attendance is up this year and it's because at every game you see those puke green jerseys trashing up the Rose Garden...Washington is FULL of fags and stoners, nothing good comes out of Seattle...

Anonymous said...

Lucky, it's obvious you're a brainless "Bricktown" Okie dumbass.

1. First of all, NOBODY is going to travel 4+ hours roundtrip one or two times per week from Seattle to Portland to watch the Blazers. Who would show that much devotion to a team they HATED the previous year?

2. If Blazers attendence is really up, its because the team is better than last year! Wow! I know sports attendence figures aren't Oklahomans' strong points, but its not that hard to figure out - trust me.

3. I'm not sure if you're pretending to be a Blazer fan or not by talking about who's in the Rose Garden. If so, why would a supposed Blazer fan be spending time on a Thunder blog?

4. The dead giveaway that you're an Okie - the random trashing of Washington at the end of your comment. All you guys resort to that. Wouldn't a Blazer fan know that good things do come out of Washington? Like, say, the owner (who helped found that worthless Microsoft), the coach, and the star player?

Try harder next time, douchebag.

Your mom's the douchebag, hardon.

I became a fan of the Thunder when they had the good sense to get the hell out of the muttville.

Everything in Seattle sucks ass. The M's are the worst team in baseball, the 'hawks are horrible and the mutts just had their worst season in 119 years. The only thing you fags do well is give head and lose.

It was really funny the way that Bennett made you his bitches and butt pounded you.

You called me a "hardon" and implied that you were not the name I called you, but in fact my mother was. I see what you did there. You're clever.

Its funny because I'm not even from Seattle, and insulting gays doesn't offend me at all. In fact, I dispise the lifestyle most Seattlites live. I just like showing how ignorant you intellectual rejects in "Big League City" really are.

You say "everything in Seattle sucks," and then bring up the M's and Seahawks. Sports teams are "everything?" Really? If so, then how big of a shithole is OKC? I like sports, but there are other things in life besides them. My sports teams are shit. Big fucking deal. It happens, and you would know that if you knew a goddamn thing about sports.

Go fuck Clay Bennett. You sure enjoy talking about him screwing us in Washington. I think you have a little crush on him. It's OK, you can always move to Seattle.

Anonymous said...

Yea your right, sports are obviously pretty meaningless in Seattle, that's why they lost the Sonics...they didn't support them. It's just a matter of time until they lose the M's and the 'hawks too.

You can tell what's important in Seattle by what they do support. 400,000 at the gay pride parade, 150,000 at Hempfest...

Clay Bennett is your superior. He marched into Seattle, bitch slapped all you little sissys around and left with your team like he was taking candy from a baby.

Worst team in a 119 years is hilarious....you can't make shit like that up...

Royce, if you had any balls you would ban this toothless loser. Even on the internet, it's completely unacceptable to use the word "fag" in such an offensive manner.

Yes, I am from Seattle. And let me pre-empt Lucky Duck by pointing out that I am not gay.

Halftime Prediction: DET is currently up 2. They will continue to toy with OKC throughout the 3rd quarter, perhaps building the lead up to 4 or 6 by the start of the 4th quarter. OKC will go on a few little runs, perhaps even take a lead midway through the 4th, and then DET will start taking the game seriously at around the 5:00 mark and win by 8-12 points. Royce will only look at the final score and will write a jubilant column about how much the Thunder are improving.

Anonymous said...

Now that is funny, a bitter loser who has chosen the "Steve H is a D-Bag said..." is complaining about something being offensive. Aren't you just a cute little Seattle sissy.

Can you feel Bennett's prick still buried in your ass? Everytime the Thunder take the court, it's like Bennett going balls deep on your plump butt one more time.

You can deny it all you want but it's obvious that you're starting to love it.

Anonymous said...

It's party time in Bricktown. We only lost by two. We are the best losers in the NBA.

Anonymous said...

Lucky Duck, you have crossed a line. You are disgusting.

Anonymous said...

You crossed the line when you came to Royce's Thunder blog to talk trash and antagonize, you stupid Seattle sissy puke.

So put on your crotchless panties, grab the K-Y and accept your roll here as "Bennett's bitch"...

Anonymous said...

Right...because poking fun at the city that stole your team is exactly the same as describing anal rape in revolting detail.

On a side note, it looks like Steve H has found a new identity.

Anonymous said...

Nobody stole your team, "Bennetts Bitch" and Bennett didn't rape anyone, Seattle gave it up to him willingly from the Schultz sale to the Mayors agreeing to the lease buyout.

Bennett rescued the team from financial collapse when no one in Seattle wanted to own them with their "arena problem".

Repeat after me "Bennetts Bitch"...Seattle gave it up to Bennett willingly...

Serious answer man, it is probably Bricktown and it's embarrassing. Bricktown is a direct copy of the Riverwalk in San Antonio, so the rest of the country sees that OKC doesn't have any real history or things that are of their own. Even the Boomers are stolen. HAHAHAHA

Anonymous said...

I'm from OKC and will admit that Bricktown is a joke. Why anyone from OKC would brag about it is beyond me.

We have plenty of real things in our city to be proud of, Bricktown is not one of them.

Anonymous said...

Bricktown is a very poor copy of San Antonio, with mainly horrible restaurants, and about 2% of the size.

Anonymous said...

Bricktown? HAHAHAHAHAH

Do you guys really have an oil platform in front of your state capitol? Someone posted that somewhere else and I thought it was a joke.

What else do expect from the meth problem capitol of the world. They can't even do drugs correctly.
